Basement Remodel
This page is all about making my basement somewhere I want to be. Scroll down the page for pictures of each room or use the buttons to jump ahead.
Laundry Room
Several years ago when I painted the wall a bright jade I thought I'd love it. I was wrong. When I decided to update and finish the basement I knew I had to start in the area that I'm in the most often. By changing the walls to a warm off white and adding pine planks I think it has softened the look of the laundry room. I used a textured spray paint on the pipes to help them blend in to the wall. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby for a few accessories and this room is done - for now.
Craft Room
I've needed a place to store all my craft supplies for awhile now and finally decided to clean out the storage room and claim it as my own. The first thing I did was prime the block walls with Kilz primer. These pictures were taken during the first coat. I did two coats to make sure I had a good base for the decorative painting.
Then the fun began. Using an overhead projector and an outline of the Great Smoky Mountains I created my own mountain view. There are six colors in the mural and I love how it turned out.
This countertop has been stored in our garage for many years and when I couldn't find a desk I liked my husband suggested that I use it. It's perfect because of the obvious space, but I was also able to install it at the height I prefer to work at when standing. We used heavy duty shelf brackets to attach it to the walls. Since I was installing a floating floor it was best not to have this much weight resting on it.
I debated on whether to paint it or cover it in pine. Painting was easier and cheaper so that's what I went with. Instead of painting it a matching color I decided on the chalkboard paint for several reasons. The durability is a lot better than regular paint, and I can doodle or take notes while I'm crafting right on the countertop.

And before I get to clean up and decorate I get to install the ceiling, which is not fun trying to do by myself. The planks I'm using for the ceiling are wider than the walls boards.
Relaxation Space
This area was a disaster because I was using it to cut all the wood for my other spaces. After cleaning out my mess I primed that horrible block wall with Kilz. Then I started adding the pine planks to the wall on the left. I ran out of pine planks so I'm trying to get other things finished while I wait for my order to be delivered. After the primer dried I used some leftover paint from another project to paint the wall a light green.
I bought a tree in the Christmas section at Walmart for $25 and a whiskey barrel planter at Lowe's for $10. Since I wanted the tree to appear taller than it's 4 feet I put some scrap wood in the bottom of the planter.
